Mrs Winn & Mrs Clarke (TAs)

We look forward to a new year with you and your children!

Welcome to 2014!

We hope you have all had a great christmas and are well rested and ready for the new term ahead.  We have a new topic this term: Caring for our world.  This will focus not only on global issues but also issues local to Bisley such as reduction in habitats due to building, and success stories such as the Bisley Kite! We will be loking at ways of saving energy and insulation in science.

Click here to look at our topic web for the spring term.  We have an exciting new topic and will also become budding photographers and computer programmers this term! overview_Spring_2013.doc

We started the month saying goodbye to student teacher Miss Gorrod and welcoming our next student teacher Mrs Trice.  Mrs Trice will be based in Owls until the end of the spring term.

We had a fascinating visit from an Italian priest, Fr.Ellio to help us with our R.E topic of who was Jesus.  The children thought of many interesting questions for him to answer and he also talked about who he thought Jesus was.

In Art we have continued with our recycling theme and are making containers from all the milk bottles you sent in.

Literacy- Watership Down

This week we have watched Watership Down in preperation for our story writing on enviromental issues next week.  We are aware that some children may find some parts of the story upsetting and have talked to them about this.  We feel that it is important that the children get the chance to investigate and discuss difficult topics and have encouraged the children to talk to their teachers if they want to discuss things further.

Mathletics will be set for Friday 10th.  Please ensure all outstanding activites are completed by then.  Children can go to homework club on a Monday or Thursday if they are unable to complete their mathletics activites at home.

Normal homework with SPaG and timestables will also resume on Friday 10th.

Please be aware that SPaG (Purple) and Maths (Green) books need to be handed in every Wednesday.  From now on if books are not handed in or homework not completed without a valid reason, children will receive a final warning and then on subsequent occasions will lose 5 mins golden time. Mathletics activites also need to be completed.

We are aware that occasions arise that prevent homework from being completed on time.  Please discuss any problems with the class teacher or send an email or letter.  Please be assured that your child will not lose golden time if we are aware of a problem. Children can also go to homework club on a Monday or Tuesday lunchtime.

All children should now have reading journals to record their reading sessions at home.  Your children should have these journals in school every day as all journals will be looked at by the class teacher this week.

Spelling Grammar and Punctuation

The new National Curriculum (2014) has word lists for each year group.  We will be adding these words to Spelladrome.  We have been learning all the words over the spring term and are gradually testing all the words although this is not a requirement just an expectation at the end of each relevant year. When all the words have been tested we will send home the results so that you can work on the words your child is experiencing difficulty with, should you wish.  Below is the complete lists for years 3 and 4.
